The grinder adjusts the grind itself and the barista has more time for guests.
The Sync System, Grind-by-Weight, DDD and burrs. What they mean and which grinders have them.

The machine or the Sync Scale records the time of the last extraction and sends it to the grinder via Wi‑Fi or cable. At the next grind the grinder compares it with the target time in the recipe. If they differ, it moves the burrs coarser or finer so that the next espresso stays on recipe.
In the desktop app a manager creates recipes and sends them to grinders, also across several venues. The app shows coffee consumption and suggests maintenance.

A precision scale under the portafilter checks the dose during grinding. The grinder stops when the portafilter holds the target amount. Changes in humidity, temperature and bean freshness do not affect the dose, so the barista does not have to weigh every shot.
In the E64 WS home grinder the scale is accurate to 0.1 g.

The patented Disc Distance Detection system measures the distance between the burrs and shows it on the display, so a setting is easy to record and return to. In Grind-by-Sync grinders a small motor moves the burrs to the micron, and zero is calibrated at the touch of a button.
T versions recalculate the grind time after a grind change so the dose stays the same.

Burr size, material and geometry define the grind profile. Mahlkönig uses flat burrs from 54 to 98 mm. Larger burrs grind faster and last longer: the manufacturer quotes about 800 kg of coffee for 65 mm burrs, 2,500 kg for 80 mm and 6,000 kg for 98 mm.
We replace burrs during maintenance with original Mahlkönig parts.

With frequent staff changes, quality is easier to keep.
The same recipes on every shift and in every venue.

The Mahlkönig Sync Scale sits under the cup and sends the espresso time and weight to the grinder via Wi‑Fi. With it, a Grind-by-Sync grinder or the E64 WS adjusts the grind even with a machine without built-in connectivity.
No. Without a connection the grinder keeps grinding, by weight in W versions. It just does not adjust settings based on machine data.
No. The grinder keeps the extraction time from the recipe, but it does not judge taste or fix poor tamping. The barista sets the recipe.
Compatible machines connect via Wi‑Fi or a USB cable. For other machines there is the Sync Scale. We configure the connection at set-up in the Mahlkönig Sync app.
